Installing LinkBox on Windows

A quick step-by-step guide for Windows 10 and 11, including how to handle the SmartScreen security prompt.

SmartScreen will warn you — this is expected

LinkBox is not yet code-signed. Windows shows a blue SmartScreen dialog for any unsigned executable. The app is completely safe — Step 3 below explains exactly how to bypass the prompt.

We're looking for sponsors to fund a code-signing certificate (~$500/yr).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does Windows show a security warning?

LinkBox is not yet signed with a paid code-signing certificate. Windows SmartScreen warns about unsigned executables regardless of their safety. The app is published directly by TiloBox and safe to run.

Is LinkBox safe to install?

Yes. LinkBox is published directly by TiloBox, and we publish checksums with every release so you can verify the file before you run it.

Will LinkBox slow my computer down?

No. LinkBox is a lightweight Tauri/Rust desktop app with a very small memory footprint.

What's the difference between .exe and .msi?

The .exe is a simple NSIS installer — easiest for most users. The .msi is a Windows Installer package, preferred in enterprise/IT environments that manage software via Group Policy.

Does LinkBox need administrator rights?

The installer may ask for admin rights during the install step. Once installed, LinkBox runs as a regular user application with no elevated permissions required.

Ready to organize your links?

LinkBox is free, private, and installs in under 60 seconds. No account required.
